Bushman Sands is a multi-faceted tourism experience comprising big five game viewing, a day centre with restaurant as well as a cultural village where visitors can discover the historical meeting of European and African cultures. Under the same umbrella as Shamwari Game Reserve, this development is unlike any other in South Africa - situated in the Bushman’s River Canyon. This initiative seeks to become a model of transformation for a previously disadvantaged community and the turnaround of a rural town into one of the World’s top conservation destinations. Highlights include a three-hour open vehicle safari drive, Xhosa cultural perspective of the frontier wars, in depth adaptation of frontier history from a colonial perspective and a ‘sundowner’ game-viewing cruise on the ‘Lady Alice’ boat.
