to the majestic kingdom of Zululand, where the mountains, bush and beach
will enchant you throughout your trip. Located on the eastern coast
of South Africa, Kwazulu-Natal offers a diversity of experiences. This
tour takes you on a spectacular journey from the vibrant rhythmic African
city of Durban, along the warm Indian Ocean with year-round sunshine
and some of the countrys best beaches and diving destinations,
to the magnificent ranges of the Drakensberg, all of which makes Kwazulu-Natal
a definite attraction for any discerning traveller.
Day
1 and 2:
Upon arrival at Durban International Airport you will be met by a Welcome
Tourism Services representative, handed your world-class documentation
and assisted to the Europcar rental counter to collect your vehicle.
From the airport, travel in a northerly direction towards Ballito. The
magnificent Sugar Coast, as it is known, extracts the essence of East
meets West in the Zulu Kingdom and presents it for your infinite
pleasure in a pristine setting. Schools of dolphins and seven world-class
golf courses cannot distract from the sheer magnificence of this Indian
Ocean jewel. Situated on the coast of Ballito, Ballito Manor is a magnificent
graceful mansion with sweeping ocean and beach views.

Day
3:
After a sumptuous breakfast, drive further north towards St Lucia Estuary.
The stretch of coastline is known as the Dolphin Coast as Indian Ocean
bottlenose dolphins can be seen year round. Should you wish to deviate
from your route to St Lucia, we would suggest the following places of
interest:
Crocodile Creek On the banks of the Tongaat River, tours are
conducted and lectures held at this crocodile and reptile park.
Stanger Shaka, King of the Zulus, had an important military
outpost here. This is also where he met his death at the hands of assassins.
The site is commemorated by a monument in Couper Street, the main entrance
to Stanger. Memorabilia from the early days of the sugar cane industry
can be seen at the Natal North Coast Museum in Gledhow Mill Street.
Arrive at the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park in the late afternoon. St
Lucia is the largest of the Zululand wetlands and was also declared
a World Heritage Site. This unique region runs parallel to the coastline
for more than 80 km from Mapelane in the South to Sodwana Bay in the
north. Furthermore, it comprises of five ecosystems, which promise a
diversity of fauna and flora.

Day
4:
Indulge in wildlife, wetland and beach splendours. Experience the captivating
Wetlands by boat and seek out hippo, crocodile, birds and wildlife or
visit the world famous BIG 5 'Hluhluwe-Umfolozi' Game Reserve.
Makakatana will take you to the golden, unpolluted coastal beaches flanked
by some of the highest dune forests in the world. Here you can snorkel,
swim and take long walks on the undiscovered beaches of Cape Vidal.
Enjoy a picnic lunch while the waves cool your feet and soak up the
African sun.

Day
5 and 6:
After breakfast drive in a northerly direction to Pongola Game Reserve.
Surrounded by the majestic Lebombo Mountains and shimmering waters of
Lake Jozini, While Elephant Lodge offers every comfort for your sojourn
in the African Wilderness. Enjoy game drives, guided walks and elephant
tracking.

Day 7 and 8:
After an early morning game drive leave for the Drakensberg Mountains
via Dundee and Ladysmith. Drive onto Winterton, the Central Region of
the Drakensberg. The word Drakensberg literally means The Mountain
of the Dragons in the Afrikaans language, while the Zulus call
it uKhahlamba, The Wall of Spears. Situated in the Northern
Drakensberg Mountains, the Cavern Drakensberg Resort is set in a dramatic
landscape, offering visitors breathtaking views and fresh mountain air.
The resort offers a wide range of activities including trout fishing,
tennis, as well as guided hikes and horse riding.

Day
9:
After a sumptuous breakfast and leaving the Berg behind, travel along
the R103 through the Midland Meander where you should take time to explore,
browse and indulge. The Midland Meander offers an array of art studios,
herb and flower farms, craft, pottery and weaving workshops. On your
way to Durban stop at the Howick Waterfalls which plunges roughly 110
metres to the rocks below. One can view the falls from an observation
point in Howick. Arrive in Durban late afternoon to hotel or the International
Airport.
