HIKING SOUTH AFRICA
14 DAYS/13 NIGHTS - JOHANNESBURG TO CAPE TOWN

This tour is for the traveller who wants to experience a destination not only from the comfort of a vehicle, but also first hand whilst walking through the unspoilt wilderness of our country. The walks are designed in a way that every client of average fitness can easily handle them, not extreme and always flexible.

Kindly note, that this tour has been designed in such a way that no overnight stop is required in Johannesburg before departing, as the driving distance is short on the first day.

Day 1:
On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met by a Welcome Tourism Services representative, handed your world-class documentation and assisted to the Europcar rental counter for the collection of your vehicle. From the airport enjoy an easy drive across the Highveld Plateau to Schoemanskloof, to rustic Old Joe’s Kaia. The afternoon can be spent walking the hiking trail following the Elandsriver situated in the valley below the hotel, an ideal opportunity to loosen up after an overnight flight.

Day 2:
Today the full day is spent at Old Joe’s Kaia and after a sumptuous breakfast there is time for a lengthy hike through the adjoining forest areas. These hikes are particularly rewarding for birding enthusiasts. The routes are well signposted and maps are available at reception. Your hosts will be more than happy to provide you with a picnic hamper.

Day 3:
The journey continues up the escarpment to view the beauty of the Panoramic Route with the well-known sight-seeing points Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. Spend most of the day outside the vehicle exploring these places on foot. Your overnight stop is close to White River.

Day 4:
In the early morning continue to the world famous Kruger National Park for a full day of game viewing.

Day 5:
Again enjoy a full day of game viewing in the Kruger National Park with an opportunity to see South Africa’s diverse fauna and flora.

Day 6:
Today you return via the historic Vootrekker villages of Ohrigstadt and Lydenburg to Johannesburg for the scheduled flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival, proceed to the Europcar counter to collect your vehicle. Depart the airport for your overnight stop.

Day 7:
The trip continues to Knysna, which will be your base for the next three days. En-route, walk through the Tsitsikamma Forest, visit the Big Tree or explore kilometres of spectacular beaches.

Day 8 and 9:
You have endless opportunities to explore this area in whatever form you choose. We suggest a visit to the Knysna Information Centre, where you can choose the hikes you would like to do, depending on your fitness levels and interests. Full map material and descriptions are available. For the adventurous, there is bungee jumping, tandem sky-diving, abseiling, horse rides and boat based dolphin and whale watching.

Day 10:
Your journey continues to the Mother City of Cape Town along the coastal highway arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 11, 12 and 13:
Again the opportunities are widely spread and there is something for everyone. Hiking up Table Mountain, discovering the shipwreck at Cape Point or walking through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. For the more leisurely minded guest there is always the vineyards or the excellent shopping at the Waterfront. A wide variety of Welcome Tourism Services day tours are available.

Day 14:
Spend your last day in Cape Town before returning the rental vehicle to Cape Town International Airport.
Approximate travel time: 30 Minute drive from Cape Town to the airport.
