GARDEN
ROUTE TRAIL
7 DAYS/6 NIGHTS - DURBAN TO CAPE TOWN
SOUTH AFRICA
Experience
the magic of the Garden Route, whose breathtaking coastline is the backdrop
for many diverse highlights. It offers opportunities to view elephant,
stroke a cheetah and ride an ostrich. Complement this with beaches,
forests, caves, winelands and the Indian Ocean, for a route filled with
colour and excitement.
DAY
1: CISKEI
Leaving Durban, a driving day takes us through the rolling grasslands
of the Transkei. The mud huts of the Xhosa people evoke an image of
timeless Africa. Our first overnight stop is north of East London
DAY 2: ADDO ELEPHANT PARK / P.E.
We travel through the historic frontier lands of the early settlers
to Addo Elephant Park, one of South Africas major conservation
success stories. We game drive in search of these gentle giants. Watching
a herd in their natural habitat is a memorable experience.
DAY 3: TSITSIKAMMA / NATURES VALLEY
Watch the surfers, swim or catch a tan on the glorious beach at Jeffreys
Bay, famous on the world surfing circuit. Our next stop at Bloukrans
River Bridge offers the option for a spectacular 216m bungi jump*.The
bravest (or craziest) leap from the largest concrete bridge in Africa.
In Tsitsikamma Forest National Park we set up camp in a truly unique
area -forested slopes on one side and pounding surf on the other.
DAYS: 4 & 5 WILDERNESS
Enjoy a short hike to the suspension bridge at the Storms River mouth
which offers amazing views. In the afternoon we visit Plettenberg Bay
and Knysna with its enchanting lagoon before we arrive at our two night
stop in the Wilderness area. A full day begins with a drive inland,
over the Outeniqua Pass, into the semi-arid Karoo region. At the Cango
Crocodile Ranch the Cheetahland Conservation Foundation allows the unforgettable
option of stroking a cheetah*. Experience the eerie beauty of the Cango
Caves. Finally, a visit to an ostrich farm in the Oudshoorn area offers
the unique chance to ride an ostrich.
DAY 6: CAPE WINELANDS
After a walk we break camp and drive to Mossel Bay for a last swim in
the turquoise ocean. Driving through the Winelands, with its famous
Cape Dutch architecture, we stop at one of the estates which gives us
the opportunity for a spot of wine tasting.
DAY 7: CAPE TOWN
The scenery is unforgettable as we travel to Cape Point, where the panorama
is breathtaking. We enjoy a picnic lunch at the Cape of Good Hope, the
south-westernmost point of the African continent. The awesome sight
of Table Mountain welcomes us into Cape Town.
