SOUTH AFRICA

From the spectacular scenery of Mpumalanga to game viewing in the famous Kruger National Park, from the Kingdom of Swaziland to the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains, the Kruger Safari offers an incredibly varied itinerary within one action-packed week.

DAY 1: MPUMALANGA
From Pretoria we travel east to the reconstructed gold rush town of Pilgrim’s Rest, where a handful of prospectors still work the streams of the area. The waterfalls and rock formations of Bourke's Luck Potholes and the spectacular viewpoints at Blyde River Canyon are our breathtaking introduction to scenic South Africa.

DAYS 2 & 3: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
View the Berlin Falls and God’s Window, with its outlook across the lowveld. Try out the option of an exhilarating bungi swing* through the gorge at Graskop Falls. Entering the southern section of Kruger National Park we set up camp for two nights. Our hunt for the Big 5 begins. With camera and binoculars at the ready, we explore the untamed wilderness of Kruger. Potential encounters with lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo make for exciting game drives. It may also be possible to organise an optional foot safari* with an armed ranger. Venturing out of camp after dark, we continue our hunt with a night drive*. The reflecting eyes in the night will form one of your lasting memories.

DAY 4: SWAZILAND
Leaving Kruger we enter the soaring highlands of the Kingdom of Swaziland, a country with a colourful history and a proud people. The Mbabane Market offers a variety of traditional handicrafts. Mlilwane Wildlife Reserve provides the opportunity for a guided bush walk (horse riding or biking may also be available)* and from the camp’s lookout area, a close-up of hippos feeding at a waterhole.

DAYS 5 & 6: DRAKENSBERG
We re-enter South Africa, stop at the Talana History Museum situated on the Anglo-Boer battlefield outside Dundee, then carry on to Ladysmith. This driving day concludes at our Drakensberg campsite, home for two nights, situated at the base of the towering Amphitheatre. One of the highlights is our sensational hike up the Tugela Gorge. We enjoy a picnic lunch in stunning scenery, and a rock pool swim before returning to camp for a barbeque.

DAY 7: DURBAN
Travelling through the KwaZulu Natal Midlands brings us to Durban, South Africa’s sunshine and surf capital with its famous Golden Mile of beaches.
